Essay #5: Oh the things you learn and Paris!
"Nope, I Am Not Faculty: The Chronicles of a 40-something Year Old College Fashionista”
My intent with this blog series was to write about school on a weekly basis. But yeah…homework! I have been boggled down and focusing on my assignments and have had no time to write.
So quick update: The food at the cafeteria is pretty good! Since I don’t have time to write that means I don’t have time to cook either! Dinner on school nights has been pizza, coffee and most recently a turkey dinner that I must say was perfect and hit the spot. My compliments to the chef.
Adobe Illustrator is not my best friend right now. Learning to make patterns by hand (in the Pattern Drafting Class) is inspiring me to sew. I really enjoy understanding the constructions of garments. This knowledge has been scrutinizing all of my clothes and how they are made even more that I did before this class! I just learned what a godet is. Google it! I have always know what it looked like, but I never knew the name! LOL…I am going to put a godet on every piece of clothing! I am going to overuse the word godet because I just love the sound of it.
I recently attended a lecture given my Prof V. She is also my Prof. for Pattern Darafting. She gave a lecture at entitled: The Future of Fashion: A Global Perspective on Craft and Innovation.
This lecture examined fashion through a sustainable lens focused on craft and innovation. Drawing from personal research as well as knowledge and experience gained from leading travel courses to Paris, Antwerp, and India, Prof. JV presented an inside look at artisanal handwork and traditional techniques used in textile design and embellishment.
I learned so much about the fashion industry listening to her. I learned about companies that I never knew existed! AND THEY ARE ALL IN PARIS! I have always wanted to go to Paris and its on my bucket list and I will be able to check it off in January of 2019. I know that I am going to do some serious shopping there! The 66 week savings plan starts now! If you don’t know what that is, here is link
Here is a list with links of the companies I learned about at the lecture:
